HIGHLIGHTS
• Lauren Gaskill hit a solo home run in the top of the first inning
• Kylie McGoldrick broke it open with a three-run home run in the third inning
• The game was the program’s first in the Aloha State

HONOLULU, Hawaii - In its first game ever in the state of Hawaii, the Virginia Tech softball team blasted three home runs to blow by old Atlantic 10 foe St. Bonaventure 6-1 Wednesday afternoon on the first day of the Hawaii Pacific Health Rainbow Wahine Classic on the campus of the University of Hawaii.

Senior Lauren Gaskill got the Hokies on the board in the bottom of the first inning with a solo home run to right-center field. In the third inning, senior Kylie McGoldrick ripped a three-run home run to right-center field to break open the game and make it 4-0 in favor of the Hokies. Gaskill drew a bases-loaded walk in the fourth inning to plate Tech’s fifth run and then junior Katey Smith sent one deep to left-center field to make it 6-0.

In the circle, freshman Mikaela Aiken (W, 4-0) held the Bonnies at bay, alllowing just one run on four hits, walking two while striking out two.

At the plate, the Hokies had eight hits, led by two from both Elizabeth Birle and Caroline Schoenewald. Gaskill, McGoldrick, Smith and Jessie Mehr each had one hit.

Tech (17-3) will be back in action on Thursday, taking on the host Rainbow Wahine (17-9) at 6 p.m. local time, midnight Eastern.
