Thomas releases 2015 Hokie softball schedule
ACC Championship returns to Blacksburg

BLACKSBURG - Seventeen home games, a trip to Hawaii and the ACC Championship returning to Blacksburg highlight the 2015 Virginia Tech softball schedule, released Thursday by head coach Scot Thomas.

The Hokies, who have made three straight NCAA Tournaments, will open their fall slate of eight games on Sept. 21, traveling to ETSU for a doubleheader, before returning home on Sept. 28 to take on West Virginia Wesleyan and Gardner-Webb. Tech will wrap up the fall with four games in Botetourt on Oct. 4 and 5.

Tech will play in four early season tournaments: at Coastal Carolina, at North Florida, at East Carolina and at the University of Hawaii. This will be the Hokies’ first trip to the islands as they have only previously been as far west as California.

Virginia Tech will play non-conference games at home against national power Tennessee (March 3), as well as Longwood (March 25), Elon (April 1) and Radford (April 22). This will be the Lady Vols first trip to Blacksburg as the previous 17 meetings have taken place in either Bristol, Tennessee, or Knoxville, Tennessee. The Hokies will face Radford (Feb. 25), Virginia (April 8), Liberty (April 15) and James Madison (April 29) in mid-week, non-conference action. With the new format in ACC scheduling, the Hokies and Cavaliers were not scheduled to play, but the two teams agreed to play a non-conference doubleheader in Charlottesville.

Defending ACC champion and 2014 WCWS participant Florida State and 2014 AAC champion Louisville highlight the home conference slate, which also includes Syracuse and NC State. The Hokies will travel to North Carolina, Notre Dame, Pittsburgh and Boston College in ACC action.

The 2015 ACC Softball Championship returns to Tech Softball Park for the first time since 2010 and will be held May 7-9.

The opponents for the Coastal Carolina and Hawaii tournaments have not been released yet.
