BLACKSBURG - The Virginia Tech softball team will wrap up its ACC slate of games with a big three-game series at the University of Syracuse this weekend. The two teams will play the doubleheader on Saturday at 1 p.m., followed by the single game on Sunday at noon. All three games will take place at the SU Softball Stadium at Skytop, located in a recreational area on South Campus.

Syracuse comes into the weekend looking to lock up a spot in the ACC Tournament. A win over the Hokies or a Maryland loss will seal a trip to College Park for the tourney. The Cuse is 22-23 overall, 10-11 in the ACC.

The Hokies are 31-18 overall, 18-7 in the ACC. With two wins this weekend, Tech can finish no lower than third in the ACC while there’s still a chance for second place or fourth place, depending on what happens this weekend and in other series.

After not having a player hit above .300 last season, six of Syracuse’s starters are hitting above that line. Entering the week, only 16 schools have more than six players that are batting .300 or higher. Corinne Ozanne leads the way with a .350 average and 10 home runs while Sydney O’Hara is hitting .348. Senior Jasmine Watson, sister of Tech student assistant coach Jasmin Harrell, has 15 home runs to lead an offense that hits .294 with 54 home runs.

O’Hara has seen the majority of action in the circle, tossing 134.2 innings. She is 14-11 with a 3.79 ERA and 149 strikeouts. Christina Clermont (5-5, 6.49 ERA, 91.2 IP), Lyndsay Taylor (1-3, 4.05 ERA, 27.2 IP) and Lindsey Larkin 2-4, 5.65 ERA, 31.0 IP) have also seen significant action in the circle.

Syracuse and Virginia Tech met just two years ago in the first matchup between the two schools as non-conference rivals, a 5-0 Orange win in Clearwater, Fla. It was just the first time they met since 2004, when both were members of the BIG EAST. Between 2001 and 2004, SU and the Hokies played a doubleheader each year, with Syracuse sweeping in 2002 and 2004 and going 1-1 in the other two years. All-time, the Orange owns a 7-2 edge in the series.
