Tyler named ACC Pitcher of the Week
Sophomore goes 3-0 with 0.74 ERA in ACC action

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Syracuse’s Sydney O’Hara has been named this week’s Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Week, while Virginia Tech’s Maggie Tyler earned ACC Pitcher of the Week honors.

Tyler, a sophomore from Poquoson, Va., was a key cog in Virginia Tech’s 5-0 week, all five of which were conference wins. She opened the week with a four-hit shutout of Pitt, where she struck out seven and followed that up with another shutout on Saturday in the second game of the Virginia doubleheader. In that game, she struck out a career-high 10 batters and allowed just four hits. In the Sunday game, she picked up the win in five innings, striking out five. For the week, she went 3-0 with a 0.74 ERA, two shutouts, 22 strikeouts against no walks with three runs allowed (two earned) and just 14 hits given up.

O’Hara got the job done both at the plate and in the circle last week, leading Syracuse to a 5-0 record, including a series sweep of Pitt. Against the Panthers, O’Hara hit .750 (8-for-12) and had one home run, seven RBIs, four runs and three doubles. On the rubber, the freshman righty from Cicerno, N.Y., finished 2-0 with a save, 15 strikeouts, two complete games – with one being a shutout. In both instances that O’Hara went the distance, she yielded two hits or less. For the week, opponents only batted .182 against her.
