BLACKSBURG - The Virginia Tech softball team will open the second half of its season this weekend by hosting Boston College in a three-game series at Tech Softball Park. The two teams are scheduled to play a doubleheader on Saturday at noon before playing the single game on Sunday at noon, as well. The Eagles are a much-improved team and will come into town with a 15-10 overall record, 2-4 in the ACC. BC lost a one-run game to No. 4 Michigan, played No. 1 Florida and No. 10 Florida State close and took the series from Georgia Tech. Megan Cooley leads the offense with a .457 batting average while Tory Speer (.328, 6 HRs, 21 RBIs) and Taylor Coroneos (.324) are also off to hot starts. Freshman Tatiana Cortez has eight home runs, including a pair of three-run shots Thursday at Bryant, and leads the team with 29 RBIs. The Eagles are hitting .278 as a team with 19 home runs, 116 RBIs, 27 doubles and 31 stolen bases.

Nicole D’Argento has seen her fair share of action against the Hokies over the years and the fifth-year senior is back carrying the load in the circle after sitting out last season due to injury. She has thrown 105.2 innings this year and sports a 9-6 record and a 2.52 ERA with 100 strikeouts thus far. She has faced the Hokies seven times (1-3), throwing 31.1 innings over her career. She has allowed 38 hits, 25 earned runs, 20 walks and has struck out 16 Tech batters.

Tech is 16-14 overall and 5-6 in the ACC after dropping the series at NC State last weekend. Vanessa Gonzalez leads the offense with a .405 average and eight doubles while Kylie McGoldrick is hitting .357 with a team-high seven home runs and Katey Smith has a .318 average and a team-high 23 RBIs. The Hokies are hitting .272 with 31 home runs, 121 RBIs, 36 doubles and 34 stolen bases.

In the first NCAA adjusted RPI, Tech is ranked 33rd with the fifth-toughest schedule while Boston College is ranked 52nd.
