RALEIGH, N.C. – Virginia Tech could not find an answer for NC State’s pitching and bats as the Hokies fell to the Wolfpack 5-0 in the final game of the series at Dail Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

With the loss, the Hokies move to 16-14 overall, 5-6 in the ACC while NC State moves to 19-10, 10-4 in the ACC.

Tech’s starting pitcher Kelly Heinz started things off well, not allowing a single run in the first three innings of play, but a few slip-ups allowed the Wolfpack to garner a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth inning.

Maggie Tyler checked in for the Hokies in the middle of the fifth in a tough situation with two runners on base. Tyler allowed a double and a single allowing NC State to score three runs.

The Hokies could not get anything going offensively on the day only recording three hits off of the reigning ACC Pitcher of the Year Emily Weiman. Those hits came from Dani Anderson, Kylie McGoldrick and Logan Spaw.

Heinz (L, 8-10) went 4.1 innings, allowing four runs on four hits with three walks and four strikeouts. Tyler pitched the final 1.2 innings, allowing a run on three hits with a walk and two strikeouts.

The Hokies will return home to face in-state rival James Madison University on Wednesday in a home doubleheader that starts at 4 p.m. JMU is 21-9 after sweeping Hofstra Saturday in Harrisonburg.
