BLACKSBURG - Fresh off a pair of run-rule victories, the Virginia Tech softball team will head to Raleigh, N.C., this weekend for a big three-game ACC series against defending conference champion NC State. The two teams will play the doubleheader on Saturday at noon and the single game on Sunday at noon with all three games being played at Dail Stadium on NCSU’s campus.

Tech is 15-12 overall after beating Morgan State 13-1 and 22-2 - both in five innings - on Thursday at home. The Hokies are 4-4 overall in the ACC after playing North Carolina, No. 10 Florida State and No. 22 Notre Dame thus far. Tech’s first four ACC opponents were/are all picked in the top four of the league’s preseason poll and made the NCAA Tournament last year.

The Pack is 17-9 overall and 8-3 in the ACC after sweeping Georgia Tech in a mid-week doubleheader at home. State is led offensively by Kirsty Grant, who is hitting .377. All-American Renada Davis is batting .338 with six home runs while freshman Molly Hutchison has seven home runs. Emily Weiman is again seeing a majority of the action in the circle as she has already accrued 133.2 innings of the Pack’s 165.2 innings and has appeared in all 26 games. She is 15-8 with a 2.25 ERA and 138 strikeouts. Courtney Mirabella is the No. 2 option, but has only tossed 29.2 innings. She is 2-1 with a 3.07 ERA and 30 strikeouts.

Tech is led by freshman Vanessa Gonzalez, who is hitting .424 with eight doubles and 21 walks. Kylie McGoldrick is batting .372 with a team-high seven home runs while Katey Smith is batting .324 with a team-high 20 RBIs.

The series between the two has been played close over the years as both teams have won 13 games. Last year, the Pack won both games in Blacksburg and eliminated the Hokies from the ACC Championship with a 3-1 win in Tallahassee. The Hokies are 9-2 against NCSU in Raleigh.
