Tech's season opener cancelled in Nashville
Cold weather forces changes to tournament
NASHVILLE - The Virginia Tech softball team will have to wait another day to open its 2014 campaign as Friday’s opener against Lipscomb at the Music City Classic in Nashville was cancelled due to cold temperatures and extreme wind chill in the area. With temperatures hovering at or below freezing and the wind chill even colder, tournament officials cancelled the late games for fear of injury when it was expected to dip into the teens.

The Hokies will try to open the season at 9 a.m. Saturday against Miami University, followed by a game with Tennessee State, but the schedule could change with the forecast again calling for colder temperatures.
