BLACKSBURG (hokiesports.com) - Virginia Tech softball coach Scot Thomas, along with the Tech Athletics Department, announced Friday the Hokies’ 2013-14 schedule as they look to build on back-to-back NCAA appearances.

Coming off a 38-win campaign which saw them advance to the NCAA Regional final for the second year in a row, the Hokies will open the season in Nashville, Tenn., at a tournament hosted by Belmont University. Tech will then travel to Spatanburg, S.C., to participate in a tournament hosted by 2013 A-Sun champion USC Upstate. The team will head to Tuscaloosa, Ala., to take part in the Bama Bash hosted by national power Alabama.

With Notre Dame, Syracuse and Pitt joining the ACC this year, conference schedules were moved up to get all of the games in and two mid-week doubleheaders were added for all 11 programs. With that, the Hokies will open ACC play the first week of March at home, hosting the University of North Carolina March 1 and 2 at Tech Softball Park.

The Hokies will finish up tournament play by playing on March 7 and 8 at a tournament hosted by Florida Atlantic in Boca Raton, Fla. While down in Florida on Spring Break, Tech will knock out its midweek doubleheader against Florida State on March 11 in Ft. Myers, Fla. It will be the first time since playing Boston College in 2002 in Allentown, Pa., that Tech will play a conference series at a neutral site. The Hokies will also play a single game against Florida Gulf Coast the day after the FSU games to wrap up their trip to Florida.

Tech will host Notre Dame, Virginia and Boston College for weekend three-game conference series and will host Pittsburgh on April 9 in a midweek doubleheader. The Hokies will travel to NC State, Maryland, Georgia Tech and Syracuse on the road in conference series in addition to the FSU games in Ft. Myers.

Once again, Tech will face its usual slate of in-state opponents in Radford (two single games), James Madison, Liberty and Longwood.

Virginia Tech is scheduled to play 19 home games this year.

The Hokies will kick off the fall season in September, hosting West Virginia Wesleyan and King College on Sept. 22 at Tech Softball Park and will then host the Military Appreciation Tournament at the Botetourt Sports Complex in Troutville Sept. 28-29 before returning home on Oct. 13 to host Richard Bland College of the College of William & Mary to wrap up the eight-game fall slate.

The 2014 ACC Tournament will be played May 8-10 in College Park, Md. The format with 11 teams has yet to be officially announced.
