LEXINGTON, Ky. (hokiesports.com) - Three members of the Virginia Tech softball squad were named to the NFCA’s all-region squad, as announced Thursday afternoon by the organization. Sophomore Kylie McGoldrick (second base) and senior Courtney Liddle (utility-non pitcher) were named to the first team while sophomore outfielder Lauren Gaskill was named to the second team.
Virginia Tech is in the Mid-Atlantic Region and all three are now eligible for All-America honors.
For Liddle, it’s her third all-region honor as she made the first team as a sophomore and the second team last year. Liddle made the squad as a utility/non-pitcher as she started two-thirds of the season at first base and the last third at catcher. The Haymarket, Va., native leads the team with a .380 average with 43 walks, 14 doubles and 37 RBIs and has seven home runs. She is currently ranked first in school history in career on base percentage (.474), first in career walks (144), first in career hit by pitch (26), second in career home runs (32), second in career slugging percentage (.573), tied for second in career RBIs (136), tied for fourth in career doubles (44), fifth in career batting average (.328), fifth in career runs scored (128) and fifth in career total bases (336).
For McGoldrick, it’s her first all-region honor, adding on to her breakout year as she made first-team All-ACC as well. She leads the team with 11 home runs and is second with a .364 average. The Stratford, N.J., native also has 13 doubles and leads the with a .685 slugging percentage.
Gaskill earned her second all-region honor as she made the first team last year. The Mt. Holly, N.J., native is third on the team in batting with a .302 average and has 19 stolen bases on the season along with eight doubles and eight home runs. The smooth-fielding center fielder has committed just one error in two seasons for the Hokies.
Tech (35-19) will begin NCAA Regional play Friday evening in Lexington, Ky., against second-seeded Notre Dame at 5 p.m.
