McGoldrick earns ACC weekly honors

McGoldrick had a big week at the plate to help the Hokies sweep a doubleheader against UNC Greensboro and pick up a series win over Georgia Tech. Against the Spartans, she scored three runs and had three hits. In the three-game series against the Yellow Jackets, McGoldrick had two hits in each game, driving in four runs and scoring three times.
A native of Stratford, N.J., McGoldrick finished the week with nine hits and a .600 batting average. She drove in five runs while scoring six times, and had five extra-base hits with four doubles and a home run. McGoldrick posted a slugging percentage of 1.067 and an on-base percentage of .650 in the five games, and now ranks sixth in the conference in batting average (.360). This is the first career ACC weekly accolade for McGoldrick.
Spingola earned all six wins for North Carolina as the Tar Heels were perfect on the week with a sweep of Virginia, two victories over James Madison, and a win over Appalachian State. She threw 23.0 innings straight innings before giving up her only earned run allowed of the week, coming in the third game of the series against Virginia.
For the week, the native of Roswell, Ga., struck out 29 hitters and only allowed the one earned run in 30.0 innings pitched, an earned run average of 0.23. Spingola threw three complete games while holding opposing hitters to a .103 batting average. This is the 11th career weekly honor and third of the season for Spingola.
