The Hokies had a hit in each of the first six innings, but hit into two double plays and couldn't get a timely hit with runners on second and third base with one out in the fourth inning. Picking up hits for the Hokies were Lauren Gaskill, Kat Banks

(two), Logan Spaw, Kelsey Mericka and Betty Rose.

The Yellow Jackets finally broke through in the fifth inning, using a pair of singles and walk to load the bases before Tech's defense let it down. Kate Kuzma grounded back to Hokie starter Jasmin Harrell, who fielded it easily and threw home for the force out, but Betty Rose wasn't watching, nor covering the plate, and Harrell's throw went to the back stop, allowing the run to score as the error was charged to Rose. After a strikeout that should have ended the inning, Hope Rush crushed a grand slam to left to make it 5-0 on five unearned runs and ice the game.

Harrell (L, 25-13) tossed a gem, but gave up those five unearned runs on eight hits with two walks and five strikeouts.

With the loss, Georgia Tech now holds the tiebreaker over the Hokies as both teams finished 12-8 in the ACC and now must wait next weekend's results to see who they will play in the ACC Championship.

The Hokies (36-18) will wrap up the regular season on Tuesday with a home doubleheader against Liberty starting at 4 p.m.
