BLACKSBURG, Va. – Coming off a 1-2 series against No. 21 Florida State this past weekend at home, the Virginia Tech softball team (28-14) travels to Farmville, Va., to take on the Longwood Lancers Wednesday at Lancer Field in a doubleheader starting at 4 p.m.

This is the 11th overall meeting between the two teams, as the Hokies and Lancers have split the all-time series with five wins apiece. The series dates back to 2007 where Tech captured its largest margin of victory, 13-8, before Longwood bounced back with a 3-2 win. The two teams have split every doubleheader against each other. The Hokies are currently 2-2 in Farmville.

The Lancers (24-16) are coming off a week break after falling to Radford, 4-1, last Wednesday. As a team, Longwood has a .275 batting average, with 272 hits and 188 runs. Senior Ashley Kramer leads the squad with 40 hits and 17 runs, good for a .370 percentage. Third baseman Jordan Cox leads the team in homeruns. The junior has nine on the season, while Megan Baltzell has eight.

Longwood relies on a two-pitcher rotation with freshman Libby Morris and junior Ashley Cornell. Morris is 10-8 with a 5.28 ERA and 54 strikeouts in 107.1 innings, while charting 51 walks, 12 wild pitches and 20 hit batters. Cornell is 8-5 with a 2.86 ERA and 39 strikeouts in 83.1 innings with 17 walks. She recently recorded the win 3-0 over Virginia last week.

Following Wednesday’s games, the Hokies will jump back into conference play Saturday when they travel to Chestnut Hill, Mass., for a three-game series against Boston College. The series will begin with a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
