BLACKSBURG, Va. – Coming off a two-game sweep over conference foe NC State this past weekend, the Virginia Tech softball team (22-12) looks to continue to record victories as it hosts James Madison Wednesday at Tech Softball Park in a doubleheader starting at 4 p.m.
This is the eighth overall meeting between the two teams, as the Hokies lead the all-time series, 6-1. The series dates back to 2002 where Tech captured its first largest margin of victory, 10-2. The Hokies’ only loss came in 2003 in a doubleheader, where Tech fell, 7-4, after defeating the Dukes, 10-2, in game one in Harrisonburg. The Hokies are currently undefeated at Tech Softball Park against James Madison.
The Dukes (12-18) are coming of a 2-1 weekend, as they traveled to Philadelphia, Pa., to face Drexel University. After defeating the Dragons, 4-0, James Madison fell in game two, 6-0. The Dukes completed the weekend with a 9-8 victory on Sunday. As a team, James Madison has a .273 batting average, with 218 hits and 120 runs. Freshman Morgan Heath leads the squad with 34 hits and 17 runs, good for a .358 percentage.
