BLACKSBURG, Va. – The Virginia Tech softball team (15-10) hits the road Wednesday as it travels to Greensboro, N.C., to take on the UNCG Spartans in a doubleheader that begins at 4 p.m. at the UNCG Softball Stadium.
This is the third meeting between the two teams this season and 22nd overall. Hokies defeated the Spartans twice in the Opening Weekend Tournament in Jacksonville, Fla. Tech leads the all-time series, 17-4. The Hokies are currently on a five-game winning streak against UNCG with the last four wins each consisting of a nine-run margin of victory.
UNCG (8-14) is currently on a two-game winning streak as it went 2-1 against Appalachian State this past weekend. The Spartans downed the Mountaineers in the last two games of the series, 9-4 and 7-2. As a team, UNCG has a .236 batting average, with 133 hits and 97 runs. Junior Eileen Horsmon leads the team with 21 hits and 15 runs, good for a .309 percentage.
Following Wednesday’s game, the Hokies will return to Blacksburg when they host North Carolina for a three-game series beginning Saturday to open conference play.
