KISSIMMEE, Fla. - Behind a dominating performance from Jasmin Harrell, the Virginia Tech softball team knocked off old Big East Conference nemesis Notre Dame 3-0 on the final day of the Citrus Classic, held at the Wide World of Sports Complex.

The Hokies got on the board in the second inning when Dani Anderson led off with a home run and then Courtney Liddle drove in Lauren Gaskill with a single. In the sixth inning, freshman Kylie McGoldrick gave the Hokies a big insurance run with a solo home run, the first of her career.

Harrell (W, 8-3) was dominant, shutting down a potent Irish offense. She tossed a four-hit shutout, striking out four. She tossed a shutout against Pittsburgh on Saturday, marking the first time in her career she has thrown consecutive complete-game shutouts.

At the plate, Gaskill and McGoldrick each had two hits while Anderson, Liddle and Kelsey Mericka each had one.

Tech entered the game with just a 2-11 record against the Fighting Irish, including a sweep by them on the final day of the 2002 Big East Tournament in Salem, Va., to storm back and win the title and break the Hokies’ hearts.

With the win, Tech improves to 13-7 and finishes the Citrus Classic with a 4-1 mark. The Hokies will travel to the Tampa/Clearwater area for the second half of their Spring Break. The team will play the Dutch National Team in an exhibition game Wednesday night at 5 p.m. at the Eddie C. Moore Complex in Clearwater. After a day off, they will open play in the USF Under Armour Invitational. On Friday, Tech will play at USF’s complex in Tampa, taking in USF and Penn State and then will play the last two days at the Moore Complex in Clearwater.
