KISSIMMEE, Fla. - The Virginia Tech softball team picked up a pair of wins Saturday at the Citrus Classic, beating Pittsburgh 1-0 and LIU-Brooklyn 5-2 at the Wide World of Sports Complex.

In the first game, Tech starter Jasmin Harrell was dominant in picking up the win. She tossed a three-hit shutout with seven strikeouts to improve to 7-3 on the year.

The game was scoreless until the bottom of the sixth inning when junior Courtney Liddle led off with a solo home run to right field. That would be all Harrell would need as she sat down the Panthers in the seventh inning.

At the plate, Lauren Gaskill and Liddle each had two hits to lead the way. Dani Anderson, Kristen Froehlich and Kylie McGoldrick each had one hit.

After a break, the Hokies re-took the field, this time against LIU. Tech scored two runs in the first inning, one on a single from Kelsey Mericka and one on a sacrifice fly from Froehlich.

Tech got two more runs in the fourth inning on single from Logan Spaw and then pinch runner Jessica Rappe scored on a wild pitch. The Hokies got their final run in the sixth inning on a single from Spaw.

Freshman Bailey Liddle (W, 3-3) was outstanding in the circle, going 5.1 innings. She allowed two runs on two hits with two walks and four strikeouts. Harrell pitched 1.2 innings in relief to pick up her first save of the year.

At the plate, Lauren Gaskill, Kelsey Mericka and Spaw each had two hits. Anderson, McGoldrick and Kat Banks each had one.

Tech (12-7) will wrap up action in Orlando on Sunday morning, taking on Notre Dame at 11:15 a.m.
