Liddle sisters lead Hokies to 6-0 win over Buffalo

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – It was the Liddle Show Saturday afternoon as sisters Courtney and Bailey led the Virginia Tech softball team to a 6-0 win over Buffalo on the second day of the Opening Day Tournament on the campus of Jacksonville University.

Junior Courtney Liddle drove in the game’s first run in the first inning with a bloop double to the gap and then in the second inning, Lauren Gaskill drove in a sharp single to right field. Tech put three more runs on the board in the third inning when Kristen Froehlich blasted a three-run home run to left to plate Courtney Liddle and Logan Spaw. In the sixth inning, Dani Anderson doubled in a run to give the Hokies a 6-0 lead.

Freshman Bailey Liddle was in control for most of the game, twirling a three-hit shutout. She allowed two walks and struck out five as she moved to 1-0 for her career.

Courtney Liddle led the way at the plate with a career-high four hits and an RBI. Freshman Logan Spaw picked up two hits while Froehlich, Gaskill, Anderson and Bkaye Smith each had one.

Tech (3-0) is back in action later Saturday, taking on the host Dolphins (2-0).
