Hokies set to open fall exhibition play this weekend
Team will play four games in Botetourt

BLACKSBURG - The Virginia Tech softball team will open its fall exhibition slate this weekend, playing four games at the Botetourt Sports Complex as part of the 2011 Women’s College Softball Invitational & Military Appreciation Benefit Tournament. Teams competing are: University of Tennessee, Virginia Tech, Radford University, Longwood University, James Madison University, Elon University and Hampton University.

Tournament proceeds will be donated to the Military Family Support Centers, Inc., and there will be a special ceremony on Saturday at 2:20 p.m. to honor vets and active duty personnel in attendance.

Tech will be one of seven regional teams taking part in the two-day event, which starts Saturday. The Hokies will open with defending SEC Champion Tennessee Saturday at 2:30 p.m. on Field 3, and will then play Longwood at 5 p.m. on Field 2. On Sunday, the Hokies will open with Hampton at 10 a.m. on Field 3 and will finish things off with a contest against Elon at 3 p.m. on Field 2.

Tech will play eight fall exhibition games to give the coaches a chance to experiment with lineups, positions and to get their first look at the newcomers.
