BLACKSBURG - The conclusion of Wednesday’s halted softball game between Virginia Tech and Liberty University will be played tonight (Thursday) at Tech Softball Park in Blacksburg after the two schools agreed to the decision.
Liberty is traveling to Radford University tonight to finish another halted game. The two teams will pick up that game in the top of the eighth inning in a 3-3 contest with one out and LU batting and no one on base and an 0-2 count. That game will resume at 6 p.m.
When that game is finished, Liberty will head over the mountain to Blacksburg and wrap up yesterday’s game after given the appropriate amount of time for travel and stretching. Because of these circumstances, the start time of the Tech/Liberty game is up in the air, but will not start before 7 p.m.
That game will be resumed in the top of the fourth inning with Tech batting and Kat Banks at the plate with a 2-0 count and Richelle McGarva on first base with no outs and the Hokies leading 5-0. Liberty will still be the home team.
Virginia Tech (34-16) won the first game of the doubleheader 5-3 and took a 5-0 lead in the second game on a bases-loaded walk from Kristen Froehlich and a grand slam by Betty Rose, both in the first inning.
Live stats will be available on hokiesports.com, but no audio/video broadcast will be done online.
Tech will then host Maryland this weekend at Tech Softball Park, playing the doubleheader on Saturday at noon and the single game - which is also Senior Day - on Sunday at 1 o’clock.
