Anderson, Roark lead Virginia Tech to sweep of weekly ACC softball honors
Anderson recorded three multi-hit games, while Roark went 3-0

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Virginia Tech freshman Dani Anderson has been recognized as the Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Week, while her senior teammate Kenzie Roark has been selected Pitcher of the Week for their outstanding performances last week. Anderson drove in five runs, while Roark pitched two complete games as the Hokies went 4-1 on the week, earning a series win at league foe Florida State.

A shortstop from Rio Linda, Calif., Anderson hit .471, collecting eight hits, nine runs and five RBI. She also recorded three extra-base hits with two doubles and a home run as Virginia Tech swept a doubleheader with UNC Greensboro and won two of three at Florida State. Anderson went 3-for-4 against the Spartans in game one Tuesday, blasting a three-run round-tripper to give the Hokies a 13-4 run-rule victory in six innings. She then set up Tech’s 2-1 win in 10 innings over Florida State Saturday, leading off the seventh with a double and eventually scoring the tying run. In the rubber match Sunday, Anderson went 2-for-3, scoring three times as the Hokies prevailed 4-3 in eight innings to claim the series.

A right-handed pitcher from Mt. Juliet, Tenn., Roark finished the week 3-0, pitching 19.2 innings, including two complete games. She opened the week against UNC Greensboro, striking out four in a complete game effort. In the second game against Florida State Saturday, Roark pitched 10 innings, surrendering just one unearned run in the first inning and holding the Seminoles scoreless for the remainder of the game as Virginia Tech won 2-1. She struck out five and allowed five hits of the 39 batters she faced. Roark pitched 3.2 innings of relief Sunday, earning the victory for Virginia Tech as it clinched the series with a 4-3 win in eight innings. She finished the week with 10 strikeouts and a 1.42 ERA.

ACC softball action continues Tuesday with a doubleheader. Virginia Tech returns to competition Saturday, hosting a series against Georgia Tech.
