This Weekend’s Headlines
• After playing its first 27 games on the road, the Hokies (21-8, 1-2 ACC) are in the middle of a seven-game home stand. Tech opened the stretch with a sweep of Cornell on Wednesday and now hosts Boston College this weekend before taking on UNC Greensboro on Tuesday.
• The Hokies and Eagles will play a doubleheader on Saturday at Tech Softball Park starting at noon and will play the single game on Sunday at 1 p.m., weather permitting.

About Boston College
• Boston College may only be 7-15 overall, but the Eagles sit atop the ACC standings early on after a surprising sweep at Virginia last weekend to put them at 3-0 in the conference.
• The Eagles have hit 29 home runs, led by junior catcher Brittany Wilkins, who has 11. The Virginia product is hitting .443 with nine doubles and 26 RBI. Alana Dimaso is hitting .328 with 11 RBI and Ali Lynette-Krech is batting .323. Boston College hits .276 as a team.
• In the circle, the Eagles have a staff ERA of just 4.98. Morgan Kidd leads the way with a 3.35 ERA and is 1-3. Allison Gage is 2-6 with a 4.82 ERA, while Amanda Horowitz is 1-5 with a 5.71 mark and Nicole D’Argento - who also has five home runs at the plate - is 3-1 with a 5.82 ERA.

The Series With BC

• Virginia Tech leads the series with Boston College, 21-5, after beating the Eagles earlier this season.
• The two met on Feb. 25 in Conway, S.C., as part of the Coastal Carolina Invitational with Tech winning 3-2. BC took a 1-0 lead in the third inning on an RBI groundout, but Kat Banks drove in a run in the fourth to tie it up and then Betty Rose plated two runs with a single down the line. Wilkins hit a solo home run to bring the Eagles within one, but Kenzie Roark got a strikeout to end the game.
• The Hokies have won nine of the last 10 against the Eagles and are 7-3 all-time against them at Tech Softball Park.

Offensive Spark Plugs
• Sophomore catcher Betty Rose and freshman Dani Anderson have been an offensive spark plugs for the Hokies. Rose, who hit just one home run last season already has six round-trippers this season while Anderson has stepped in at shortstop and is leading the team at the plate.
• Rose is currently third on the team with a .321 batting average, leads the squad with six home runs and is fourth with 21 RBI.
• Anderson is hitting .389 with two home runs, 23 RBI and stolen bases and is doing a fabulous job at shortstop. But her clutch hits have been key as she has 11 two-out RBI, second on the team. She is hitting .444 with runners in scoring position and has a 70 percent success average in driving in runners from third base with less than two outs.

Running Like the Wind
• The Hokies knew they had a lot of team speed heading into the season, but no one expected them to run like this. Through 30 games, Tech already has 56 stolen bases, putting it on pace for 104 for the season. The school record is 105, set in the 2009 campaign.
• Freshman Kat Banks leads the way with 14 swipes while Ashton Ward, Sarah Ashby and Dani Anderson are tied for second with seven apiece.
• Twice this year, Tech has tied the school record for stolen bases in a game with seven (Rhode Island, Howard).

Tough Losses
• Five of Tech’s eight losses have been by one run and three of them came on walk-off at bats. Ohio got a single in the bottom of the seventh to win 2-1; Charleston Southern got a single in the bottom of the ninth inning to win 10-9 and Coastal Carolina got a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the 10th inning to win 6-5.
• Tech lost by a run to South Alabama and then fell by two runs to the Jaguars. The Hokies also dropped a one-run game to North Carolina.
