BLACKSBURG - With the regular season wrapping up Sunday for two ACC teams, the conference announced the pairings for the upcoming 2010 ACC Softball Championship, to be held Friday, Saturday and Sunday at Tech Softball Park. The Hokies will be the No. 7 seed and will open play on Friday with No. 2 seed Virginia. That game will take place at approximately 2:30 p.m., following the first game, which features No. 3 seed Florida State (41-15, 12-9 ACC) taking on No. 6 seed Maryland (33-21, 8-11 ACC) at noon.

The two winners will play on Saturday at 1 p.m. while the losers are eliminated in the single elimination tournament. Top-seeded Georgia Tech (46-9, 19-2 ACC) will face No. 8 seed Boston College (16-32, 2-17 ACC) at 5 p.m., and the final game of the day will feature No. 4 seed North Carolina (39-17, 11-10 ACC) taking on No. 5 seed NC State (28-26, 9-12 ACC). Those two winners play on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. Sunday’s championship game is slated for 1 o’clock and will be shown on Fox’s Regional Sports Network.

Virginia (33-20, 13-7 ACC) came to Blacksburg in March and swept the Hokies (24-32, 8-13 ACC). The Cavs won game one 5-0, then held on for a 4-3 win in the second game. On Sunday, UVa won 8-3 in a six inning game that was shortened due to rain.

Tickets for the event can only be bought the day of the game and are $5 for adults and $3 for students and youth (18 & under). The fan entrance will be on Spring Road by the third base foul pole. Fans can go here for all the information on the tournament.

This will be the first time the Hokies have hosted a conference tournament on campus in softball. The program hosted the 1999 Atlantic 10 Tournament and the 2002 Big East Tournament, but both of them were played at the Moyer Complex in nearby Salem.
