ATLANTA, Ga. - Georgia Tech used three long balls and a big sixth inning to down the Virginia Tech softball team 9-1 in 6 innings Saturday at Mewborn Field to complete the three-game sweep.

Tech coach Scot Thomas went with Kristin Graham in the circle, but she gave up two home runs and three runs in just four batters before being pulled from the game. Jasmin Harrell went the final 5.1 and pitched well until her defense let her down in the sixth inning.

After getting three runs in the first, the 10th-ranked Yellow Jackets scored another run in the second inning to make it 4-0. The Hokies got on the board in the sixth when Kristen Froehlich singled to left field to plate Bkaye Smith. With two runners on, though, Misty Hall struck out to end the inning.

In the sixth, Hall committed a big error with two outs and the bases loaded to extend the inning. Kristine Priebe made Tech pay, hitting a walk-off grand slam to end the game due to the run-ahead rule.

Graham (L, 1-3) went just 1/3 of an inning, allowing three runs on three hits. Harrell went 5.1 innings, allowing seven runs (just one earned) on seven hits with three walks and three strikeouts.

Froehlich had the only two hits for the Hokies, a pair of singles.

For the weekend, the Yellow Jackets outscored the Hokies 27-3 and hit five home runs.

The Hokies will return home Tuesday for a non-conference doubleheader against East Tennessee State at 5 o’clock at Tech Softball Park. Admission is free.
