CLEARWATER, Fla. – Eight of the nine starters picked up hits and starting pitcher Jasmin Harrell tossed a four-hitter as the Virginia Tech softball team earned a hard-fought 3-1 win over Boston University Friday night to complete a 2-0 day at the USF Under Armour Invitational.

Tech got two runs in the third inning to break things open. Bkaye Smith drew a walk and stole second before moving up on a groundout. Junior Richelle McGarva came through with a sharp double to the gap and then she scored on an error. The Terriers cut it to one run with a sacrifice fly, but the Hokies scored on another error in the fourth and then held on with solid defense for the win.

Harrell (W, 4-2) pitched a gem, allowing one unearned run on four hits with seven strikeouts and two walks. She also made three outstanding plays in the field to save herself from potential big innings.

Tech got one hit from its first eight batters in the order - Ashton Ward, McGarva, Davis, Kristin Graham, Misty Hall, Kristen Froehlich and Kelsey Hensel.

Tech will play two more games tomorrow, first a 12:30 p.m. game against No. 24 Massachusetts and then at 4 o’clock against Quinnipiac.
