BLACKSBURG - The National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) has announced the Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division I All-Region teams, honoring student-athletes from 10 NFCA regions. A total of 264 players from 121 different institutions comprise the regional teams. Three Virginia Tech softball players have been named to the NFCA Mid-Atlantic All-Region Team. Jessica Everhart, Charisse Mariconda and Jenna Rhodes were all honored and now become eligible for All-America accolades.

A change this year is the announcement of just one team per region (first team), although the team has the same number of members of the previous year's first and second teams combined. The change gives the regional representatives more leeway in presenting candidates for All-America selection. A new region – the Mid-Atlantic Region - was also created and that’s where the Hokies now reside after previously being in the Northeast (2000-08) and Southeast (1996-99) Regions.

The all-region teams were chosen by NFCA member coaches from each region, and all the honorees will now be eligible for selection to the Louisville Slugger/NFCA All-America first, second or third teams. In addition, conference pitchers and players of the year not selected to the regional teams were added for All-America consideration.

Top-ranked Florida, which enters this week’s regional tournament as the nation’s No. 1 overall seed, placed all six of their nominees (maximum number allowed) on the Southeast Region team. The NFCA Division I All-American teams will be announced at 4 p.m., on Wednesday, May 27.

Everhart makes her second all-region team as she was honored as a freshman, as well. She made second-team All-ACC after hitting .344 with nine double, a triple, five home runs and 29 RBI. The senior from Purcellville, Va., made the team as an outfielder.

Mariconda was named to the All-ACC first team for the second year in a row and now earns her third all-region honor. She made the second team as a freshman and first-team last year. The senior from Hollywood, Fla., hit a career-high .371 with nine doubles, three triples, four home runs, 38 RBI and 25 stolen bases. Mariconda made the squad at the third base position.

Rhodes makes her second all-region squad as she was a second-team selection last year. The senior from Broadway, Va., made first-team All-ACC a week ago and made the all-region team as an outfielder. Heading into postseason, she leads the country in hits, is second in stolen bases and is fifth in batting average. She set school records for hits in a season (91), batting average for a season (.474), stolen bases in a season (49), career batting average (.384) and career stolen bases (114). Rhodes finished the season on a 15-game hitting streak and got a hit in 24 of her final 25 games. She reached base in 50 of 56 games this year, as well.

Virginia Tech has had just one player earn All-America honors in its history as Angela Tincher achieved the honor three times in her career.
