W, 3-0 :: Box Score :: ACC Softball Championship
In the fourth inning, senior Jessica Everhart tripled down the right field line and scored on fellow senior Beth Walker’s double off the wall to make it 1-0. In the fifth stanza, Marra Hvozdovic drew a walk and moved up a bag on Jenna Rhodes’ infield single – her 90th hit of the season. They both scored on senior Erin Ota’s double to the gap to make it 3-0.
That would be all Roark (W, 22-17) would need. The sophomore twirled a three-hit gem in leading the Hokies to their seventh-straight ACC Tournament game win. Roark scattered three hits, walked one and struck out three.
Walker led the way with two hits and an RBI. Ota had a hit and two RBI while Rhodes, Everhart and Charisse Mariconda each had one hit. Rhodes’ single extended her hitting streak to 14 games, the fourth-longest in program history.
Tech (28-27) will now have its hands full as it will meet top-seeded and 21st-ranked Georgia Tech in Saturday’s semifinal. Georgia Tech downed eighth-seeded Virginia 7-0 Friday. Saturday’s game time is set for 3:30 p.m. Georgia Tech took two-of-three games in the regular-season series against the Hokies in Blacksburg. Second-seeded Florida State and third-seeded North Carolina will meet in the other semifinal game.
