GREENSBORO, N.C. – Virginia Tech outfielder Jenna Rhodes and Georgia Tech pitcher Kristen Adkins have been named Atlantic Coast Conference Player and Pitcher of the Week for the week of April 6-12. The duo led their respective teams to a pair of sweeps in conference play last weekend.

Rhodes, a senior from Broadway Va., hit 10-for-12 in a three-game set against Boston College last weekend to claim her first weekly league honor. The second-team All-ACC honoree from a year ago scored eight runs and knocked in two more to pace the Hokies at the dish. She had a double and was 3-for-4 in stolen base attempts. Rhodes posted a .833 batting average and a .917 slugging percentage in the three-game series.

Adkins, a sophomore from McKinney, Texas, secured the weekly honor with three victories over NC State last weekend. She went 14.0 innings without allowing a run and scattering five hits over the span. Adkins went the distance in the series opening 8-0 victory before coming in from the bullpen to get the win in the second game. The Tech hurler went seven innings in the series finale to claim her third win over the Wolfpack. Adkins held NC State to a .116 batting average and helped her own cause by belting a three-run home run in the sixth inning of game two to give herself the lead and the victory.

Virginia Tech will visit Liberty for a Wednesday doubleheader before opening a three game series at North Carolina on Saturday at 1 p.m. Georgia Tech will host Kennesaw State on Tuesday evening before traveling to Virginia for a weekend series.

The 2009 ACC Softball Championship starts on Friday, May 8 and runs through the 10th. NC State will host this year’s championship for the first time in program history at the Curtis and Jacqueline Dail Stadium in Raleigh. For more information, please visit www.theACC.com.
