In the opener, the Hokies had one bad inning and it cost them dearly. In the third inning, Florida State sent 11 batters to the plate and scored all six runs in that stanza to mount a big lead. The Hokies helped them out with a passed ball and two wild pitches in the inning to let three of those runs score.
Tech had just three hits in the game, one apiece from Jessica Everhart, Beth Walker and Whitney Davis. Abbie Rexrode (L, 4-7) went 2.2 innings. She allowed four runs on four hits with a walk while Kristin Graham went the final 3.1 innings. The freshman allowed two runs on four hits with a pair of walks issued.
In the night cap, the Seminoles put up two runs in the third inning but Tech cut into that lead in the fifth inning. Jenna Rhodes reached on an infield single and then stole second base. She came in to score when Erin Ota singled to right field.
In the sixth, with two outs, Beth Walker hit a solo home run to left field to tie the ball game. But in the bottom of the sixth, FSU scratched a run across to take the lead back on a throwing error by catcher Amber Walker on a pickoff attempt for the winning run.
Rhodes led the way with a pair of hits and a stolen base while Whitney Davis also had two singles. Ota, Everhart and Walker each had one hit.
Kenzie Roark (L, 8-11) went the full 6.0 innings. The sophomore gave up three runs (two earned) on seven hits with five strikeouts and four walks.
The two teams will wrap up the ACC series on Sunday with a single game at 11 a.m.
