Men’s Tennis

Virginia Tech (12-6, 3-5 ACC) begins a five match home stand this weekend, hosting No. 12 Florida State and No. 43 Miami. The Hokies are coming off a pair of road wins last weekend, defeating both Georgia Tech and Clemson 4-3. Mitch Harper enters the weekend ranked 39th, moving up 14 spots after defeating a pair of ranked opponents last weekend. He is 9-5 this spring at the one. Alex Ribeiro is 13-4 while freshman Carlo Donato is 12-4.

Women’s Tennis

Tech split last weekend, defeating No. 50 Boston College, 4-3 before being edged 4-3 by No. 46 NC State. Natalie Novotna, Nika Kozar and Nina Sorkin picked up singles points for the Hokies against the Wolfpack. Novotna enters the weekend ranked 61st in the ITA standings with a record of 14-4 this spring. Freshmen Sorkin and Kozar are having strong rookie campaigns with 13-4 and 12-5 records, respectively. Virginia Tech is up to 14th in the standings this week after defeating Louisville 15-14 on the road last weekend. Paige Petty tallied seven goals to lead the Hokies to the win. She, along with Tristan McGinley, lead the team on the season with 35 goals each. Emma Harden is adding 22 and Taylor Caskey has tallied 19.

The Hokies (15-20, 2-9 ACC) have won four of their last six games dating back to the second game of a midweek doubleheader against Longwood on March 27. The Tech pitching staff, which boasts a team ERA of 2.28 – fourth best in the ACC – entering the weekend, has tossed an impressive 1.63 ERA in that span. The offense has picked up steam as they’ve slugged .433 over the six-game span. In the team’s last outing, versus Charlotte, Caitlyn Nolan led the charge at the plate where she went 4-for-8 with a home run and seven RBIs in the doubleheader. [Full Preview]

Virginia Tech (12-15, 5-7 ACC) and Virginia will meeting for the 185th time (the series dates back to 1900) with the opening pitch on Friday afternoon. The Hokies are coming off an midweek win over Dayton, defeating the Flyers 19-3 at English Field at Union Park. JD Mundy had a three-run home run in the first inning to get the offense going while Jack Owens added a two-run homerun. [Full Preview]

VertKlasse Meeting (High Point, N.C.)

The Hokies are traveling to just one meet this weekend after splitting up for three separate ones last weekend. Tech brought home two event titles from the Florida Relays as Marek Barta won the discus and Emma Thor claimed the hammer throw. Lisa Gunnarsson took second in the pole vault and set a new school-record while Eszter Bajnok tied the program record in the long jump. [Full Preview]

Women’s Golf

Brickyard Collegiate

Virginia Tech is coming off a sixth place finish at the Henssler Financial Intercollegiate. Elizabeth Bose was the top finisher for the Hokies at 23rd. In addition to Tech at the Brickyard Florida State, LSU and Vanderbilt will compete and Mercer University is serving as the host team.
