BLACKSBURG – The Office of Student-Athlete Development within the Virginia Tech Athletics Department will be holding its eighth annual Career Jumpstart on Oct. 16 at 7 p.m. in the president’s suite at Lane Stadium.
The event allows current student-athletes who are juniors or seniors to learn about specific career fields and to network for possible future employment opportunities. Event sponsors include Union Bank, MassMutual Commonwealth, and Carilion Clinic.
An exclusive event for just juniors and seniors, the Career Jumpstart provides opportunities for Hokie student-athletes to enhance career development skills, while interacting with alumni and professionals to make connections, learning about specific career fields, and enhancing their networking skills. The event will consist of an Industry Info Session, Networking Reception, and LinkedIn Photo Session.
The Industry Info Session, sponsored by Carilion Clinic, will allow student-athletes to gain insight into various career fields of their choice. Student-athletes will have the opportunity to interact with professionals in finance, athletics administration, law, insurance, communications, marketing, real estate, and healthcare and also learn about graduate school admissions
The Connect VT Networking Reception, presented by Union Bank and Trust, provides an opportunity for student-athletes to develop and enhance their networking skills.
This year, Carilion Clinic will sponsor the LinkedIn Photo Session, which will allow student-athletes the opportunity to have a professional headshot taken by athletics department photographer Dave Knachel. The photo can be utilized to enhance a student-athlete’s online professional profile.
