Six Hokies named to VaSID Academic All-State team
State organization recognizes athletic and academic prowess

Six Virginia Tech student-athletes have been named to the 2016-17 Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) Academic All-State team.
Elizabeth Bose, a sophomore on the women’s golf team, Brandon Fiala, a senior on the men’s swimming and diving team, Hanna Green, a senior on the women’s track and field team, Torben Laidig, a junior on the men’s track and field team, Lindsey Owens, a senior on the volleyball team and Murielle Tiernan, a senior on the women’s soccer team, were recognized by the organization for their academic accomplishments.
To be eligible a student-athlete must have at least a 3.25 cumulative grade point average, and be a sophomore or higher. In all, 217 student-athletes from 37 colleges and universities across the state were recognized.
VaSID is comprised of sports information or athletics communications professionals from intercollegiate institutions throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia. Membership is open to any individual affiliated with one of the state's institutions at the NCAA Division I, Division II, Division III, NAIA, USCAA, NJCAA, community college and independent levels, provided that individual's area of responsibility lies within the realm of sports information.
