BLACKSBURG - The Virginia Tech Department of Athletics announced the date of its inaugural Celebration of Women’s Sports Luncheon presented by Coca-Cola and online auction fundraisers to benefit the women’s athletics programs. This year’s luncheon theme of “She Is” celebrates all that women are and can be as a result of college athletics.

“Our student-athletes here at Virginia Tech are an outstanding group,” Director of Athletics Whit Babcock said. “The successes of our women’s athletic teams are one of our biggest points of pride and each of these teams really exemplifies our core values of Service, Honor, Excellence, Integrity and Strong together. This luncheon is an opportunity to introduce some of our university’s best ambassadors to the community.”

The auction launches Monday, Feb. 29 on HokieSports.com (Link) and will consist of several Virginia Tech Fan Experience packages as well as memorabilia and Hokie gear.

Some of the items are:

• Trip for two to the ACC Women’s Basketball Tournament in Greensboro, North Carolina (bid now, ends March 1 - 5 p.m.)
• Honorary Coach for the Day – An opportunity to join the team of your choosing for pregame film, on-field warm ups, pregame speech and during the national anthem.
• Trip for two to Puerto Rico with Virginia Tech volleyball, which will be Aug. 31-Sept. 4
• Birthday party at baseball’s English Field
• Golf with Jon Laaser and Andrew Allegretta at the Pete Dye River Course
• Lunch with Virginia Tech Director of Athletics Whit Babcock and Hokie All-American Kevin Jones
• Enter Sandman Spirit Event of a Lifetime – Experience football pregame from a Virginia Tech cheerleader’s point of view, including the Hokie Walk, Enter Sandman team entrance and “Let’s Go Hokies” pregame cheer.

Items and more details will continue to be added to the auction site in the weeks leading up to the Celebration of Women’s Sports Luncheon scheduled for April 22. The event marks a celebration of women in athletics and all that “She Is” as a result of college athletics. Sports play an incredible role in the development of women, helping them to be healthier, more confident, stronger, and as a result, more successful after college.

“We are excited to host our inaugural Celebration of Women’s Sports Luncheon” Executive Associate Athletics Director/Senior Woman Administrator Desiree Reed-Francois said. “This event will help us not only raise money for our female sports, but it showcases the amazing group of student-athletes we have in these programs and the teams that support their success. We want to thank Coca-Cola for sponsoring the event helping us to create an opportunity to introduce these remarkable individuals to Hokie Nation.”

Attendees will enjoy lunch with Hokie student-athletes and head coaches of Virginia Tech women’s sports teams while experiencing an exclusive introduction to Virginia Tech’s new Nike uniforms and receiving behind-the-scenes access. Funds raised from the events will go directly to support the women’s athletics programs at Virginia Tech to further the opportunities provided by the department in shaping the future of tomorrow’s female leaders.
