Hokies bow out of NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships

Tech wraps up the 2017-18 season at national event

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Virginia Tech men’s tennis team wrapped up the 2017-18 campaign on Thursday afternoon, falling in singles and doubles at the 2018 NCAA Men’s Singles and Doubles Championships at the Wake Forest Tennis Complex in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

During the morning session, Mitch Harper, ranked 29th, faced No. 26 Cameron Klinger of Vanderbilt. The Hokies’ junior kept it close early in the first set, but Klinger was able to secure a pair of breaks to win it 6-3. Klinger clinched it with a 6-2 win the second set.

In the afternoon doubles match, the Hokies’ 27th-ranked duo of Henrik Korsgaard and Alexandre Ribeiro battled UCF’s eighth-ranked Korey Lovett and Eero Vasa. The teams opened with breaks and then followed up with trading points on serve to be tied at 4. The Knights’ pair was able to break and hold on serve to win the first set 6-4.

In the second set, the Hokies took the 2-0 lead, but the UCF pair answered to tie it up at 2-2 before going ahead 4-3. Korsgaard and Ribeiro looked to make a late surge, but the Lovett and Vasa held on to win it 6-4.

Harper wraps up the spring with a 15-7 record while Korsgaard and Ribeiro close out with an 8-6 tally this spring.
