Tech set for 2018 ACC Men's Tennis Championship

BLACKSBURG – The fifth-seeded Virginia Tech men’s tennis team is set to open play at the 2018 ACC Men’s Tennis Championship on Thursday, April 26 in a 2:30 p.m. match against 12th-seed Georgia Tech at the Cary Tennis Park in Cary, North Carolina.

No. 31 Virginia Tech (17-6, 7-5 ACC) is riding a seven-match win streak into the contest, which began with a 4-3 win over the Yellow Jackets during the regular season. In that match, the Hokies gave up the doubles point but came back to pick up singles wins from Mitch Harper, Jason Kros, Henrik Korsgaard and Carlo Donato.
Harper enters the match ranked 29th having won his last seven matches, including six over ranked opponents. Harper is also part of a ranked doubles team with he and Donato at 60th. The pair is the current ACC Doubles Team of the Week after helping clinch two doubles points over the weekend. Korsgaard and Alex Ribeiro is the top tandem for the Hokies at 36th.
Georgia Tech (7-16, 3-10 ACC) defeated Boston College 4-0 in the first day of competition at the ACC Championship. The Yellow Jackets secured the doubles point and singles wins from Phillip Gresk, Chris Yun and Andrew Li to advance.
Carlos Divar is ranked for the Yellow Jackets at 61st. He is 6-14 this spring at the one. He joins teammate Michael Kay at 20th in the ITA doubles standings with the pair owning a 13-5 tally at the one. Yun and Kay are also solid in duals with 10-7 and 11-7 records, respectively.
The winning team will advance to the quarterfinals to face fourth-seeded Notre Dame on Friday at 2:30.
