Hokies sweep ACC Men's Tennis Player of the Week honors

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Virginia Tech’s Mitch Harper has been named the ACC Men’s Tennis Player of the Week, and Harper along with teammate Carlo Donato have been named the Doubles Team of the Week.


Harper came up big for the Hokies at his No. 1 singles position in wins over No. 12 Florida State (4-3) and No. 43 Miami (7-0). With the match against FSU tied at 3-3, the junior from Brisbane, Australia, took the clinching match over 51st-ranked Aziz Dougaz, 6-4, 7-6 (7-4), to give the Hokies a win over the Seminoles. Harper also defeated No. 107 Christian Langmo of Miami, 6-2, 7-6 (7-5) as Tech shutout the 'Canes 7-0.

Harper paired up with Donato, a freshman from Pisa, Italy, in the two ACC wins. The Hokie duo played at No. 2 doubles, and defeated 33rd-ranked Jose Gracia and Lucas Poullain of Florida State (6-1), and Bojan Jankulovski and Dane Dunlap of Miami (6-3). Tech claimed the doubles point against the Seminoles and the Hurricanes en route to the team wins.

Virginia Tech will be back on the court Sunday, April 15 when the Hokies host VCU in a non-conference match at noon.
