Hokies falter to No. 26 Notre Dame

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The Virginia Tech men’s tennis team fell to No. 26 Notre Dame 7-0 on Sunday afternoon at Eck Tennis Pavilion.

Notre Dame (11-8, 3-2 ACC) won the doubles point with 6-4 wins on both court one and court two.

Tech (10-5, 1-5 ACC) fell on courts three, six, two and four in straight sets as the Irish secured the team win and took the 5-0 lead in the match.

The Hokies’ Henrik Korsgaard split sets with Tristan McCormick to force the super tiebreak on court five. Korsgaard rolled in the opening set 6-1, but the two kept it close in the second, going into a tiebreak the Irish player held on to win 7-6(5). In the super tiebreak, McCormick claimed the point 10-5.

On court one, there was a ranked match-up that went to three sets. Tech’s No. 53 Mitch Harper squared off against No. 48 Alex Lebedev. After Lebedev held on to win the first set 7-5, Harper came back in the second to win it 6-3. In the final set, Lebedev secured it 6-1.

Virginia Tech will be back on the court next weekend, traveling to Georgia Tech on Thursday, March 29 for a 4 p.m. match. The Hokies will remain on the road to face Clemson at 1 p.m. Saturday.
