Harper clinches team win on court one

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The Virginia Tech men’s tennis team claimed an ACC win on Friday evening, winning five of six singles matches in straight sets en route to a 7-0 shutout of Boston College in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts.
Tech (10-5, 1-4 ACC) opened with a pair of wins in doubles to secure the point. Henrik Korsgaard and Alex Ribeiro paired up at one to win 6-4 while Carlo Donato and Mitch Harper claimed the match on two with the same score.
Donato rolled in his singles match to give the Hokies a 2-0 lead, winning 6-1, 6-1 over Kent Mukai at the four. Ribeiro pushed the Tech advantage to 3-0 as he knocked off Chris Grasel 6-3, 6-4 on court three.
Harper, ranked 53rd in the ITA, secured the team win for the Hokies with the 6-3, 6-4 decision over Derek Austin at one.
Jason Kros went to three sets on court two, winning the opening set 6-4. BC’s Gereon Heitmann came back strong in the second, taking it 6-0. In the final set, Kros was up 2-1 before Heitmann retired.
Korsgaard kept the wins going as he took the match at five with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Markus Nordby. George Cartledge rounded out the scoring for Tech, defeating Max Palmer 7-5, 6-2 on court six.
The Hokies will be back on the court Sunday, March 25 for a noon match at No. 26 Notre Dame.
