Tech hits the road for Boston College, No. 26 Notre Dame

BLACKSBURG – The Virginia Tech men’s tennis team hits the road for two ACC matches, beginning with Boston College on Friday, March 23 at 4 p.m. Tech will make the trip to No. 26 Notre Dame for a noon match on Sunday.

THE HOKIES (9-5, 0-4 ACC)
Virginia Tech is coming off a closely battled 4-3 loss to No. 16 NC State last weekend. The Hokies won the doubles point and went to three sets in three of the singles matches. Senior Mitch Harper and freshman Carlo Donato claimed wins on courts one and four, respectively.

Harper is ranked 53rd in the latest ITA standings and is coming off a win over then-ranked No. 22 Alexis Galarneau last weekend at the one. Harper brings a 6-4 spring record into the weekend. Alex Ribeiro is posting an 11-2 tally, including 8-2 at the three while Donato is 9-3. Jason Kros is 7-5 in duals.

THE EAGLES (7-5, 0-3 ACC)
Boston College fell to Louisville 6-1 last weekend. The Eagles prevented the shutout with a win from Kent Mukai on court three.

Gereon Heitmann has posted a 7-4 record this spring while Mukai is 6-4. Chris Grasel has a 5-3 mark in duals.

THE FIGHTING IRISH (10-8, 2-1 ACC)
Notre Dame dropped a 6-1 decision last weekend at Virginia. Matt Gamble claimed the win at the five to prevent the shutout against the Cavaliers. The Irish will face North Carolina on Friday before squaring off against the Hokies Sunday.

Alex Lebedev enters the weekend ranked 48th in the ITA standings. He has posted a 5-6 record this spring. Richard Ciamara is adding an 11-6 tally while Grayson Broadus is 9-3. Brendon Kempin and Tristan McCormick rank 80th in doubles.

UP NEXT: The Hokies remain on the road for a swing through the south, traveling to Georgia Tech on Thursday March 29 followed by Clemson on Saturday, March 31.
