Tech set to host Saturday doubleheader

BLACKSBURG – The Virginia Tech men’s tennis team is set to host a Saturday, Feb. 10 doubleheader as A-10 foes St. Bonaventure and Richmond travel to the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center.

THE HOKIES (5-1, 0-0 ACC)
Virginia Tech swept Eastern Kentucky and JMU last weekend, defeating both 7-0. The Hokies won all six singles matches in straight sets. In the most recent ITA standings, the Hokies have No. 23 Mitch Harper, No. 123 Jason Kros and the doubles team of Harper and Henrik Korsgaard is 31st.

THE BONNIES (0-3, 0-0 A-10)
St. Bonaventure fell 7-0 to Binghamton the last time out. The Bonnies forced the Bearcats to three sets on three courts, but were unable to hold on for the win. Indra Patwardhan has an overall 6-4 record in 2017-18 while Guillermo Garcia is 6-6.

THE SPIDERS (3-3, 0-1 A-10)
Richmond picked up a pair of 4-3 wins last weekend, defeating Bryant and Navy. The Spiders gave up the doubles point to the Midshipmen, but rallied in singles as Caleb Troy, John Karlawish, Matt Fernandez and Klein Evans secured wins. Joe Nardini earned A-10 Rookie of the Week honors after picking up wins against William & Mary and Bryant.

THE SERIES
The Hokies are 16-0 all-time against St. Bonaventure and hold a 40-4 mark versus the Spiders. Tech defeated SBU last season 7-0, winning in straight sets. The Hokies last faced Richmond in 2016, defeating the Spiders 5-2.

UP NEXT: Tech remains at home for another doubleheader, hosting Davidson and Gardner-Webb on Sunday, Feb. 25.
