Harper knocks off No. 27 for second ranked win of weekend

AUSTIN, Texas – Virginia Tech men’s tennis junior Mitch Harper picked up his second ranked win of the weekend, defeating No. 27 Harrison Scott on Saturday at the Longhorn Invitation in Austin, Texas.

Harper, ranked No. 68 after the fall, rolled past Texas’ top-ranked Scott, winning the match in straight sets with scores of 6-3, 6-3.

The Hokies 97th-ranked Alexandre Ribeiro defeated Vanderbilt’s Maxwell Freeman, rallying after losing the first set 2-6. Harper came back to hold on for the 7-6 win in the second before cruising to the 6-2 win in the third.

Jason Kros, ranked 80th, also picked up a win for the Hokies. He won the opening set over Vanderbilt’s Panu Virtanen 6-2, but fell 4-6 in the second. Kros came back to secure it 6-3 in the third.

Virginia Tech will be back on the court at 9 a.m. Sunday for the final day of the Longhorn Invitational.
