Bernstine advances into finals at Georgia Tech Invite

Tech freshman with two singles wins on Saturday

ATLANTA – Virginia Tech freshman Chase Bernstine advanced into the finals of the Georgia Tech Invite on Saturday in Atlanta, Georgia.

Bernstine opened the day with a tough win over South Carolina’s Benton Wood. The Tech player won the opening set 6-4, but faltered in the second 2-6. He powered back to win the third 6-2.

In the next round, Bernstine again went to three sets, facing Kevin Huynh of Georgia State. Bernstine gave up the first set 1-6, but rallied to roll in the next two to win it 6-1, 6-4.

Feliksas Sakalauskas lost his first match of the day, but came back to win in the next round, defeating South Carolina’s flight top-seed Benton Wood 6-4, 4-6, 7-6(2).

The Hokies’ George Cartledge downed Georgia State’s Andrei Duarte 7-6(3), 6-3 to start the day. Cartledge faltered in the next round, falling to Auburn’s Alex Mascioli 6-7, 7-1, 7-4.

Jason Kros fell in a three-set match against South Carolina’s Dennis Yancy. After winning the first set 6-0, Kros gave up the next two 6-1, 6-2. Kros picked up a win in his second match, defeating Georgia State’s Andrei Andrukhou 6-1, 6-1.

The Hokies will wrap up the Georgia Tech Invite on Sunday.
