Four Hokies advance in singles at Georgia Tech Invite
Asaba, J. Kros, Bernstine, Sakalauskas move into next round

ATLANTA – The Virginia Tech men’s tennis team had a strong opening day at the 2017 Georgia Tech Invitational in Atlanta, Georgia.
Abraham Asaba advanced in singles, defeating rival Virginia’s Ammar Alhaqbani, 6-2, 7-5. Jason Kros also picked up a first round win in the draw, opening with a 6-1 win in the first set against Georgia State’s Sebastian Acuna. Kros gave up a close second set 5-7 before coming back to win the third 6-4.
Chase Bernstine opened with a battle against Georgia State’s Baily Showers. Winning the first set 7-5, Bernstine was edged by the same margin in the second before rallying to win the third 6-4.
Feliksas Sakalauskas also had a three-set battle for the Hokies in the opening round. The Tech player won the first set 6-4, but host-team Georgia Tech’s Brandon Freestone secured the second 6-4. The two kept it close in the third, but Sakalauskas outlasted to win it 7-5.
The Hokies will be back on the court Saturday with matches slated to begin at 9 a.m.
