Hokies falter at ITA Nationals
Tech men will continue in the consolation draw

INDIAN WELLS, Calif. – The Virginia Tech men’s tennis team faltered on the opening day of the 2017 ITA Fall National Championships.
Tech’s 122nd-ranked Mitch Harper had a tough opening round match, facing 11th-ranked Brandon Holt of USC who picked up the 6-3, 6-2.
Alex Ribeiro faced the nation’s top JUCO player in Marcus Walters. After giving up the first set 6-1, Ribeiro rallied in the second to win it 6-4, but Walters came back strong to take the third 6-2.
In doubles, Harper paired up with teammate Henrik Korsgaard where the duo fell 6-1, 6-4 to 26th-ranked Victor Pham and Jackie Tang of Columbia.
The Hokies will be back on the court Thursday in the consolation rounds of singles and doubles.
