Hokies set for ITA Fall National Championships

BLACKSBURG - The Virginia Tech men’s tennis team will be well represented at the 2017 ITA Fall National Championships as Mitch Harper, Henrik Korsgaard and Alex Ribeiro are slated to compete beginning Nov. 1 in California.

The event will be held at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden and the JW Marriott Desert Springs Resort & Spa.

Ribeiro picked up a bid to the tournament after advancing to the finals of the Atlantic Regional before falling to UVA’s Aswin Lizen in a hard-fought three set battle. Ribeiro is slated to face Marcus Walters of Tyler Junior College in the opening round.

Harper claimed a bid to the singles event after winning the Milwaukee Classic. The 122nd-ranked Tech player defeated Minnesota’s 83rd-ranked Felix Corwin in the final round. In the opening round, Harper will square off against USC’s 11th-ranked Brandon Holt.

Korsgaard will pair up with Harper for the doubles event. The duo earned an at-large bid and enter the field ranked 31st to be seeded sixth. The Tech pair will face 26th-ranked Victor Pham and Jackie Tang of Columbia.

Harper will be first on court for the Hokies with an 12:15 p.m. PT (3:15 ET) start time. Ribeiro is slated to go on at 4:15 p.m. ET while the doubles team will take the court at 8 p.m. ET. All of the Hokies’ matches are scheduled for Indian Wells Tennis Garden.
