Ribeiro runner-up at ITA Atlantic Region Championships
Tech sophomore battles to three sets in finals

LYNCHBURG, Va. – Virginia Tech men’s tennis sophomore Alex Ribeiro advanced to the finals of the 2017 ITA Atlantic Region Singles Championship before falling in three-sets on Tuesday afternoon in Lynchburg, Virginia.
Ribeiro battled past Old Dominion’s Aziz Kijametovic in the semifinals. Winning the first set, 6-2, Ribeiro faltered in the second 4-6. In the final set, Ribeiro fell behind early, but tied it up at 3-3. The two were knotted at 5-5 before Ribeiro took the 6-5 lead on serve to win it 7-5.
In the finals, Ribeiro gave up the first set, 2-6 to UVA’s Aswin Lizen, but rallied for a strong 6-3 win in the second. Lizen rebounded for the third to secure the win and the title 6-2.
Virginia Tech will be back on the court, Nov. 3-5 at several events including the Georgia Tech Invitational, William & Mary Invitational and the ITA National Fall Championships.
