Ribeiro moves into quarterfinals at ITA Atlantic Regional

LYNCHBURG, Va. – Virginia Tech men’s tennis sophomore Alex Ribeiro advanced into the quarterfinals at the 2017 ITA Atlantic Region Championships.
Ribeiro rolled in his first match of the day, downing William & Mary’s Lars de Boer in straight sets with scores of 6-1, 6-2.
In the next round, Ribeiro had a battle after rolling to a 6-1 win in the opening set against Longwood’s Valentin Popescu. The Lancers’ player came back to win the second 6-3 before Ribeiro again rolled to take the third 6-1.
Tech also had wins in the round of 32 from Carlo Donato and Jason Kros.
Donato defeated Richmond’s John Karlawish 6-3, 6-4 before falling to Old Dominion’s Aziz Kijametovic 6-3, 6-2.
Kros picked up a hard-fought win over Temple’s Juan Araoz, rallying after giving up the first set 2-6 to win the next two 6-3, 6-2. In the next round, Kros fell to Penn State’s Christos Antonopolous 7-5, 6-3.
Ribeiro will be back on the court on Monday for the quarterfinals which will follow two rounds of doubles.
