Four Hokies advance in singles at ITA Atlantic Regional

LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Virginia Tech men’s tennis team keeps moving on with four Hokies into the next singles round at the 2017 ITA Atlantic Region Championships in Lynchburg, Virginia. Carlo Donato and Alex Ribeiro have also moved into the doubles quarterfinals.

Donato and Ribeiro also picked up wins in their singles matches. Donato rolled past VCU’s Rivero Crespo 6-0, 6-1 while Ribeiro downed Penn State’s Noah Sutter 6-4, 6-1.

Jason Kros advanced with a win over Georgetown’s Ian Witmer, 6-1, 6-3. Feliksas Sakalauskas battled against host team Liberty’s Sebastian Mermersky. After holding on to win the first set in a tiebreak 7-6(3), Sakalauskas gave up the second, 4-6. In the third, the Tech player rallied to win it 6-4.

In doubles, Donato and Ribeiro paired up for two wins on Saturday. In the round of 32, the Tech pair downed Georgetown’s Mac Rechan and Charlie Sharton, 8-4. The duo followed up with an 8-2 win over Penn State’s Matt Galush and Ben Lieb.

The Hokies will be back on the court on Sunday beginning at 9 a.m. with the quarterfinals of doubles. Two rounds of singles will follow.
