BLACKSBURG – The Virginia Tech men’s tennis team is set to open the main draw on Friday, Oct. 20 at the 2017 ITA Atlantic Region Men’s Tennis Championships.
Freshman Ryan Kros picked up a pair of wins in the qualifying draw to advance into the main draw, defeating Charlie Hudson of Hampton 7-5, 7-6(3) in the first round and followed up with a 6-2, 7-5 win over St. Joseph’s Michael Santa Lucia to advance into the main draw.
He joins teammates George Cartledge, Chase Bernstine, Feliksas Sakalauskas and Abraham Asaba in the first round of main draw on Friday.
Carlo Donato, Alex Ribeiro and Jason Kros received first round byes and will begin singles play on Saturday.
The Hokies will also open the first round of doubles on Friday with the pairings of Bernstine/Cartledge, Asaba/Jason Kros, Sakalauskas/Ryan Kros, Donato/Ribeiro.
The ITA Atlantic Regional is set to run until Tuesday, Oct. 24. Friday's competition will begin at 9 a.m. with doubles at the Cook Tennis Center/Hershey-Esbenshade Tennis Courts in Lynchburg, Virginia.
