Harper into finals at Milwaukee Classic

MILWAUKEE – A big day for Virginia Tech men’s tennis as Mitch Harper downs nation’s No. 27 in semifinals to advance into Sunday’s finals at the Milwaukee Classic.
Ranked 122nd, Harper eases his way to the finals through a hard-fought win against No. 27 Arkansas’s Jose Salazar in the semifinal round. The match was close in the first two sets with Harper taking the first 6-3 before faltering in the second, 4-6. Harper made sure to assure his spot in the finals by rallying to win 6-4 in the third set.
In the quarterfinals, Harper knocked off a fellow Commonwealth foe as he defeated Old Dominion’s Michael Weindl in another hard-fought battle. Harper won the opening set 7-6, but fell in the second 3-6. He came back strong in the third, rolling to a 6-0 win.
Harper will face Minnesota’s 83rd-ranked Felix Corwin in the finals, which will begin at 9 a.m. ET at the UWM Panther Arena.
